Who's got the earliest cherry plum?
There was a recent post regards fruit trees not setting fruit this year, something that often happens in a lot of orchards. If you watch the best of the roadside trees over the years, they never miss a good crop. Also my brother has well over a hundred plum varieties and quite a few cherry plums. He says the cherry plums never miss a good crop while the other standard plums can't be relied on every year. Let us know who has the earliest good cherry plums and we can share scion at next years grafting days.

- Neville Burley Only a suggestion what about someone that has a really late one as well, good to be able to spread the harvest on a nice tasting reliable fruiting plants I reckon :)28 November at 23:24 · Unlike · 6

- Angela Casella The tree out the back of work in Melton has loads of fruit. Can out pick them early or do you have to let them ripen on the tree?29 November at 13:13 · Like
There is one not far off being ripe, near Whittlesea, quality untested. I'll try and beat the birds this year. I think everything here would be a week or 2 later than your side of the state.6 December at 23:20 · Edited · Like
I also found A smallish reddy orange one that was under ripe but quite tasty. I'll try that again on the weekend. Might not be the absolute earliest but if it's good flavor that's enough for me.
50 meters away was a group of larger yellow ones which were just ripe and pretty good too, with a touch of apricot or nectarine flavor. I'll try them again on the weekend too :)9 December at 13:24 · Like
If I pick out the best to eat, can I just freeze the rest to make jam or sauce later on?13 December at 13:35 · Like
It's just a matter of having the time to get them going at the moment.
BTW, home dried cherries are the bomb, but you probably already knew that ;)13 December at 13:39 · Like
